From Our Chapter President - September 2010

Just a reminder our next membership meeting will be September 12th. The date was changed because of Labor Day Weekend. This would have been the first Sunday of the month and the board felt that members would not be present because of the holiday.

I regret a number of our members were absent from the August meeting. We had an unexpected guest speaker by the name of Deacon that gave a rousing talk. This person was one of the founding members of A.B.A.T.E. of California who now resides in Arkansas. During his speaking he reiterated that we are not alone in our struggles with a government that is trying desperately to infringe upon our freedoms and that we need be vigilant as to who is being elected into the positions of power. Also one of the things he touched upon was membership. This has plagued us since the beginning as to why folks don’t renew and the wonders of why people don’t join to protect their rights as motorcyclists.

That reminds me, have you looked in the newsletter lately to see when your membership is about to expire? Well what are you waiting for? Fill out the renewal form in the newsletter, write a check and mail it in. Do you know someone who hasn’t been receiving their newsletter who is a member of our Chapter? If so have them get in touch with Keith Maile the Membership Director listed in the newsletter.

At our September meeting the following positions will be open for nomination; President, Treasurer, State Representative, Safety & Education, Activities, Security and Newsletter. The elections will be held at the November meeting. If you have an inkling to run for any of these positions please consult the job description that should be listed on the web site and read the By-laws to make sure your eligible. Get in touch with Shirley Lacock for an application. Fill it out, come to one of the Board meeting before the election so that you will have an idea as to what goes on at Board meetings. Once elected, you will take over that position at the January meeting. Nothing to it, just step forward and volunteer your time. Don’t worry if you don’t have an idea as to how to exactly do your position there are plenty of folks out there to help you along.

Until the next time, keep the shiny side up.

Mike Grachek, President

Public Relations

I am currently working with Dick Stage, WEEK, and WHOI to get more coverage for Motorcycle Awareness. I am in hopes to help educate the public about being aware that we are out there. I am also asking our members to get on their web site to let them know who much you appreciate them taking the time to make the public aware that we are out there. “Look Twice Save a Life”.

I have sent another article to the Journal Star requesting that it be published so that we might make the general public more aware of Motorcycle’s that are on the Road.

Once again I want to give a Big thanks goes out to Jay Goldberg for his help in getting PSA’s out to the local radio channels I appreciate it.

Remember Drive Aware - Look twice even when you are on your Motorcycle.

Don’t forget to sign up for the contest for Back Stage Passes at Budweiser Grand Nationals at each monthly chapter meeting. The winner of the contest will be drawn at the Chapters August Meeting.

I am in charge of the ID Check Booths at 2010 Budweiser Grand Nationals and have signup sheets for the volunteer’s. If you can’t make a meeting but are still interested in working send me an e-mail or give me a call and I will put you on the list. Be sure to include your full name, phone number, shirt size and time you would like to work.

MEETING OF THE MINDS

9/24 THRU 9/26/2010

As a reminder, Illinois is hosting the annual MRF Meeting of the Minds which is being held in Peoria this year September 24 thru 26, 2010. I am in charge of the hospitably room so we will be asking for help as well as donations of food, drinks and paper items. Let me know as soon as possible if you are donating, what it is and how much you are bringing. Jim has been elected to make his famous Chicken and Noodles again; they went over so well at the Heartland Steam a couple of years ago.

The State of Illinois Abate will be paying the registration fee to attend the seminar but you will need to pay for your banquet meal on Saturday night, the cost is $40. A signup sheet will be at the June monthly meeting for your registration for attending the meeting and banquet. We will need to collect the $40 for the banquet if you are attending.

We will have a big hand in the local advertising and will work with the State to help defer some of the costs of the same.

As always if you’re interested in helping out with the hospitability room please contact me.
